Public Notice to the Community
 Beware of Scam Calls Pretending to Be the Val Verde Sheriff's Office


 We are alerting the public to a recent scam targeting residents in our area. Individuals have reported receiving phone calls from scammers pretending to be from the Val Verde Sheriff's Deputies. The callers may assume our Deputy's identity and try to confirm generic information based on the name provided. These callers may claim an issue with your records or outstanding fines and ask for personal information or payments over the phone or to head to a specific location.


Please take the following precautions:

  1. Do not provide personal or financial information over the phone unless you know the caller's identity.
  2. The Sheriff's Office will never ask for payments via phone or demand immediate action to avoid arrest.
  3. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and contact The Val Verde Sheriff's Office at (830) 774-7513.


 If you suspect you’ve been a victim of this scam, report it to local authorities immediately. Stay vigilant and protect yourself from fraud.

Mission Statement
To effectively and efficiently provide for the protection of lives and property, preserve the public peace, and provide needed community services with the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards. The Sheriff’s Office recognizes that government exists for the benefit of the people. Enforcement and regulatory actions against persons are carried out for the benefit of society as a whole. We do not act to adjudicate or rectify injustices, inequities, or wrongs between individuals, but we act only to maintain order for the preservation and protection of society as a whole.
​Sheriff Duties
Sheriff is a constitutionally created office with duties prescribed by the Texas legislature (Tex.Const.Art. V, sec. 23).  The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer for the county and has a range of duties that include:

  • Providing security for the district and county courts; 
  • Enforcing traffic laws and conducting criminal investigations; 
  • Civil service process;
  • Operation of the jail and accepting bail for prisoners in custody;
  • Conducting sales of seized and unclaimed properties;
  • Maintaining communications with other law enforcement agencies.
The Sheriff is elected every four years and has countywide jurisdiction, but in practice, most sheriff offices concentrate their activities outside city limits where municipal officers cannot operate.
